Uterus Uber Alles
Dear Sisterhood -
W.T.F.
Seriously. Here's a helpful list of Things I Have Learned About Feminism, 2008 Revised Edition.
- The media is sexist. Well actually this one wasn't a news flash. I mean, I'm not a big HRC fan, but come on--if you're gonna criticize a woman for having birthing hips on the campaign trail, then I demand equal time for some analysis of the Biden Comb Over. Because really, that thing is scary.
- It's bad when the media is sexist, unless the media is being sexist toward women who aren't big fans of willy-nilly uterine scraping. Then those bitches deserve what they get!
- Women are oppressed because they can't have it all!
- Women who actually DO have it all really need to Think of the Children! And stop having it all, dammit! And stop raping Gaia by having children! Also, see #2 above. Again.
- Women are more than their uterus. And to prove it, we will divide into camps based upon uterine policy. It makes perfect sense when you think about it.
- Every stupid decision a child ever makes is ALWAYS THE MOTHER'S FAULT. Always. That unattractive dress I paid way too much for last week? Yeah, totally mom's fault. Somebody slap her!
- Fathers? What are those things, anyway?
I'm speechless. Really. Is that what everything about a woman's experience boils down to nowadays? The uterus? I'm having a hard time believing that we've come a long way when we can't seem to get past our own birth canals.
Wake me in November.

This is flippin' brilliant. Brilliant, I say. And so does my well-used uterus.
``Hysteria'' does come from uterus.
My inclination is to agree with everything the Left is saying about Palin and then add: "On the other hand, since she has a husband to support her we won't have to pay her as much." The problem with that approach is that it needs listeners with a sense of (a) humor and (b) shame.
PersonFromPorlock: LOL, you can interrupt me any time.
BAW: yep, can't disagree with a single point here. I used to think that blatant sexism was uncommon; I'd like to go back to my quiet delusion now, please.
I think we all can agree that Palin is being targeted by the Media, the Left and the Right alike for silly things and reasons. But I maintain that John Edwards was treated somewhat similarly when Elizabeth Edwards got her diagnosis, i.e. "you need to stay home and take care of your sick wife and poor children." I somehow doubt Sarah Palin will rebel against the media spotlight by having an affair with a 1980s party girl, but stranger things can happen.
You must admit, though, that Palin's uterus produced some cute children! Everyone agrees. AND - I am totally hot for the daddy-to-be/son-in-law-to-be, Levi!
Belle -
Palin and an affair with a party girl - now that would be a story! Frankly, given the completely nutso internet reaction to the Palin announcement last week, I'm kind of surprised I haven't heard that rumor yet...
I think my only quibble with the Edwards example is that the sexism towards HRC and Palin is not merely confined to one aspect of their lives. Did you see the headlines today talking about Obama unleashing female surrogates to blunt the Palin effect? Really, media? The mighty O releases the fembots? Why not just come out and start promoting what you really hope will happen: a catfight, preferably involving bikinis and jello!
I mean, how hard would it have been to frame the argument in terms of female Obama supporters speaking out for their candidate, thus granting them independent agency, instead of making it sound like the Great and Powerful Oz has unleashed his flying uterus brigade?
Sigh. And I concur about the Palin offspring - the youngest daughter is a pistol! She had the whole princess wave thing going on after her mom's speech at the convention. Cute! They are quite the handsome strapping fam, to be sure.
Yeah, I agree with you about the uterus brigade report. My main (really ONLY) problem with Obama is not with him as a person or potential leader, but with his ardent, obsessive uberfans (many of whom are in the media). Palin has picked up on the Obamaobsession and used it against him on the stump. Might I suggest she be careful, as she is generating similar star power.
