Look! A Dead Horse! Get a Whip.

I'm tempted to submit a proposal to this "call for papers." Scare quotes intentional; perhaps the phrase "call for polemics" would have been a better fit?

Also, Hypocrisy would like to take a minute to address my readers:

"Um, hi everyone. Hypocrisy here. Look, I'm just gonna get straight to the point. I am TIRED of being the used as representative of the root of all evil, because I'm NOT. Yeah, yeah, I give a pass to hormone-addled goth wannabe teens who think that they're the First Person Evah to discover that sometimes (gasp) people behave differently from how they say they should. Because they're FOURTEEN, and HORMONE-ADDLED, and frankly, they grow out of it."

"Or, they used to, but not anymore. Look, here's the thing. Every single one of you knows me, up close and personal. So stop trying to use me to flog your political points of view, because there's no winning. Really. I promise. When I'm your only argument; well, your argument is weak, is all I'm saying."

"I mean, disdain for me is cool. We all want to be better than we are, and we should be bummed out when we turn out to suck. But by myself, I'm not the root of all evil. I'm really more of a poignant commentary on the fallen nature of humanity."

"Please try to keep that distinction in mind. Thanks."

It's a call for fresh slogans for the angry wing, something we all could use.

Then they can add scholarly robes and the funny hats, and TV regains its attraction for a short time.

I posted this comment over there as well:

What strikes me, and maybe this is to elementary to point out so forgive me, is that the second issue and concern that Mr. Hedrick lists is the "personal as political" while the second to last issue and concern he lists is "Laura Bush's private life". Quite honestly, I don't really care about her private life, let alone anyone else's (qualifier for scum who prey on children).

Then there is the whole ""outing" as a political tactic" which immediately reminded me of either Kerry or Edwards making some statement about Mary Cheney being a lesbian.

I guess what makes me weary of all the political crap is that I see the same thing from all politcal parties.

These people really have no idea how vicious and nasty they look, do they?

Posted by: Dean Esmay at October 8, 2005 02:53 AM

More likely, Dean, I think it's "don't care." It's the smear-'em-at-any-cost mentality.

I will say, if Holden Caulfield had existed and was dead now, he'd be rolling in his grave.

Dean,
I think it's sort of like ricki said. It's okay to be vicious and nasty because they are *correct*. Anybody who does not share their world view is evil and deserving of their contempt and vitriol.

And these people call themselves "liberal."
